Gett, which received $300 million in funding from Volkswagen in 2016, acquired Juno in 2017 for $200 million, but is still aiming to keep Juno a driver-friendly rideshare company.

By charging 60 to 65 percent lower commissions than Uber and Lyft, Juno helps rideshare drivers maximize their income. This not only makes for satisfied drivers, but riders can also feel better knowing more of their money is going to the person providing the service. Juno also offers various promotions and bonuses to its drivers, allowing them to earn even more money over time.

Additionally, the company is selective about who joins its team.

It only accepts former Uber and Lyft drivers with a rating of 4.7 or above.

How Juno Works

Juno is currently only available in New York City and select cities in New Jersey. Since its acquisition by Gett, the plan has been to expand into other markets. However, that expansion is in doubt since Volkswagen has just written off its entire $300 million investment in Gett.

The service works very similarly as other major rideshare services like Lyft and Uber for both riders and drivers.

Juno for Drivers

Juno markets itself as a driver-friendly alternative to Uber and Lyft. With 30,000 active drivers in New York City, according to the company's website, it's clear that drivers do enjoy making some extra money on the side through Juno.

The application process for becoming a driver on Juno is similar to other rideshare services. However, Juno is much more selective about who can drive for the company. Prospective drivers have to attend an in-person interview to ensure they're a good fit for the service.

Driver must also have an eligible vehicle. From the Juno site:

To get started, visit the Juno site, select "Become a Driver," and enter the city you want to drive in, your name, email address, password, and phone number.

From here, someone from the company will contact you to set up an interview. In addition to having a high rating on Uber and Lyft, you must also have a TLC license, which is required for all rideshare drivers who drive in New York City.

Once Juno has approved you to drive, you will be able to accept rides using the app. You will receive ride requests, and after you accept, you will drive to the pickup location and take the rider to their designated drop-off location. Bliss. Similar to UberX, this is the regular service, which will provide you with a clean vehicle, but nothing special.
Lux. This is similar to UberBLACK or Lyft Lux, providing you with a more luxurious vehicle.
SUV. Choose this option if you need a larger vehicle that can fit up to six people, like UberXL or Lyft XL.

After you've chosen the type of vehicle you need, you will choose your pickup location. You can find your location using your phone's location services or you can manually adjust the address for accuracy. Next, you will enter the drop-off location. You will then receive an estimate for your ride cost as well as an estimated time of arrival.

Juno uses a similar algorithm to other rideshare services to determine its fares. There is a base fare and minimum fare, which are determined by the time and distance of the ride. Like other rideshare apps, Juno also has high-demand pricing, which adjusts fare prices during times of high demand.

When a rider refers a friend to Juno, both the rider and their friend get 30 percent of all rides for two weeks when the referred person takes their first ride.
